On 19th of July 2017 at the Hotel Marriott, Skopje, Eptisa with the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning organized a workshop on presenting future water management sector policies and identified investments needed for compliance with the EU Directives (DWD and UWWTD). The workshop covered the following parts of the ToR:

  • Water supply and waste water collection and treatment policy – Task 2
  • Development of Directive Specific Implementation Plans for UWWTD and DWD – Task 4
  • Development of Programme for Water supply and waste water collection and treatment – Task 6

The welcoming address was conducted by the Minister for Environment and Physical Planning, Mr. Sadulla Duraki, after which Ms. Jadranka Ivanova, Head of EU Department, SPO/IPA Coordinator at the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning also spoke. At the end of the first part, Mr. James Hunt, the project team leader addressed the audience. The official part of the event was also opened for the media.

The second part of the workshop started with presentation on „Proposals for national water policy framework and priority actions to achieve compliance with Water Framework Directive and Water Blueprint for Europe” given by Mr. Brian Faulkner, water management expert from Eptisa. The second presentation was done by the drinking water experts Mr. Nenad Colic and Ms. Dragana Matic which presented the main requirements and significant challenges for ensuring drinking water quality which will be summarized in the Directive Specific Implementation Plan for the Drinking Water Directive. Mr. Hunt spoke on the subject of Directive Specific Implementation Plan for Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive, while the final presentation continued with Ms. Daniela Buzharovska on the subject of “Programme for water supply and waste water collection and treatment, assessment of possible financing sources and potential implementation timetable”.

The workshop was well attended by the stakeholders and there was lots of media coverage on the national media, both on Albanian as well as Macedonian language.
